John Avenatti

John Anthony Avenatti, 80, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on February 7, 2025. He was born on December 17, 1944, in Clinton, Indiana, to Tony and Avera Avenatti. John was a member of First Baptist Church of West Terre Haute. He worked for 7 years with the Vigo County Sheriff Department and retired after 21 year of service with the Terre Haute Police Department. John was a proud Army veteran, who served in Telecommunications. He was a great husband and father. His family is very proud of how John served his country and his community throughout his lifetime. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Susan Jane (Strohm) Avenatti; son Tony John Avenatti and Stacy J. Avenatti; granddaughter Corie Lynch; and great granddaughter Sicilee Stevens. John was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 12:00p.m. in First Baptist Church of West Terre Haute, 205 S 5th St. Wet Terre Haute, IN 47885. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The Terre Haute Police Department Honor Guard has been entrusted with the honors ceremony. Visitation will be at the church on Monday, from 10:30a.m. until service time.


Gary Bagley

Gary L. Bagley, 70 of Terre Haute passed away on March 8, 2015 with his loving family at his side in St. Vincent Seton Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Decatur, IL on July 9, 1944 to Willis and Virginia (Lanter) Bagley and they have preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his father-in-law Bill Schimmel. Gary was employed at J. I. Case for 19 years and after its closing was at Bemis Company for 21 years. He served in the US Navy during the Viet Nam War and was a lifetime member of the VFW #972. Gary had been an avid bowler at both Vigo Bowl and Imperial Lanes. He loved and adored his grandchildren, fishing, playing the lottery, and visiting casinos. His survivors are his loving wife, Marilyn (Schimmel) Bagley whom he married on July 27, 1975, his daughter Wendy Dewey of Georgia, sons Gary Bagley, Jr and his wife Amy, Bradley Dewey and his significant other Kim Hallett all of Terre Haute. His two sisters are Deanna Evinger and husband Tom of Brazil, IN and Ellen Dial of Grass Valley, CA; his two brothers are William Bagley and his wife Jeanne, and Irvin Bagley and his wife Kathy all of Terre Haute; his grandchildren Destiny Crum, Bobby Smith, Bradley Dewey, II, Brittney Dewey, Madison Bagley, Cohen Bagley, Ethan Bagley, and Zebe Dewey. His mother-in-law Rosemary Schimmel and his brothers- and sister-in-law are Bill Schimmel and wife Debbie, Tony Schimmel, Julie Schimmel and husband Bob Humble. He also had several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be in DeBaun Springhill chapel on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 1 p.m. with Revs. Ray Austin and Joe Gormong officiating. Lynn Bennett

Karen L. Gammie, 56, of Terre Haute died at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 1999, in Lakeview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was a CNA with Union Hospital. She was born Sept. 15, 1943, in Springfield, Ohio, to Estelle Bennett and Mary Raines, Bennett. Survivors include her mother Mary Nasser of Terre Haute; three daughters, Dawne Gammie, Tiffany Bell and her husband David Bell and Kandace Gammie, all of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Myles Gammie, David Bell IV, David Bell III and Christopher Brockunier. James “Jim” Robert Dewey born on June 28, 1944 in Terre Haute, Indiana entered into rest on November 30, 2009 in San Antonio, TX. He retired as MSGT from the U.S. Air Force in 1984. Jim was an avid fisherman with a generous heart. He is survived by his sons, Michael Jason Dewey & wife Dora and Darrell Sizemore & wife Ganay; 4 grandchildren, Evan & Meredith Dewey and Jacob & Reagan Sizemore; and numerous family members and friends. Mr. Ronald Everett “Ron” Dewey, 64, Hope, Arkansas, passed away in Ottawa, Kansas on Wednesday, March 4, 2009. Mr. Dewey was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on August 12, 1944, to Everett and Sarah S. Dewey. He was a truck driver with American Eagle of Dallas and a former driver with 18 years of service with Southern Bakeries (formerly Meyers Bakeries) of Hope, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents. SURVIVED BY: his wife of 27 years, Amanda Doty Dewey, Hope. Two sons; Craig Beck, Tampa Florida and Justin Dewey, Hope. Daughter: Stacy Auld, Hope. Helen Duncan

Helen Lee Ornduff, age 76 of Terre Haute, Indiana passed away on December 14, 2020 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born on September 1, 1944 in Terre Haute the daughter of Lester Duncan and Virginia Murl Duncan (Stedman). Helen graduated from State High School. She earned her Associates degree from Indiana State Business College. Helen worked in the customer service department at Rural King, before retiring. Helen enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, fishing and camping with family. She enjoyed being outdoors and taking country drives. Helen’s favorite place in the world to be was Bridgeton. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Ornduff, her parents, her brother Roy Duncan, and her sisters-in-law, Pauline McCullough and Rosela Agers. Helen is survived by her son, Jack L. Ornduff Jr. (Tori) of Staunton, her daughter, Melissa L. Ornduff, of Terre Haute; brother, Gary Duncan of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Austin Ornduff, Haleigh Ornduff, Kaylee Ornduff, Jack Farner, Helen Ornduff, Samantha Ornduff, and Helen Ornduff (Kurtis James); and great-grandchildren, Emaile Dwyer, Marina James, Maya James, Jacob Ornduff, Troy Ornduff, and Serenity Ornduff. Dave Foster

David R. Foster, 72, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, while visiting Metropolis, IL. David was born on March 3, 1944 in Marion, KY, to James Foster and Wilma Davenport Foster. He was a U.S. Army veteran. David was a contractor having worked for Hartmann Roofing, Paitson Brothers, Laughery Roofing and Siding during his career. David was a graduate of State High School and attended Ivy Tech Community College. He was a member and past member of the Shelburn Masonic Lodge 369, Rosedale American Legion 290, Cruisers Club Chapter 20 and was the host of Terre Haute Past Facebook page with over 3,000 followers. The Terre Haute Past Page was the host of hundreds of historic photos of Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley area. David enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycle riding, gardening, flowers and especially enjoyed spending time with his daughter and grandson. David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Wilma Davenport Foster and a brother, Donald Eugene Foster. He is survived by one daughter, Melissa Foster Payne and her husband Daniel of Westfield, Ind.; one sister, Shirley Foster Kibler of Terre Haute; a grandson Brady Parson. He also is survived by his girlfriend Suzy Estelle; and his former wife Sue Larimer Summers; as well as several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 6 pm. Tom Hadley

Tom Hadley went home to be in the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Tom was born on June 22, 1944, in Terre Haute, Indiana the son of Maurice and Margaret Bronnert Hadley. He married the love of his life, Charlotte Cunningham. And they were married 55 years. Mr. Hadley was a graduate of Indiana State University where he was a gymnast. During his time there, he served as captain of his team. Upon graduation he started his teaching and gymnastics coaching career at Metropolitan School District of Pike Township. In 1972, he moved to Columbus where he continued his teaching and coaching. He coached men’s gymnastics at Columbus East High School. During his 42 year teaching career, he touched the lives of many. Mr. Hadley was a member of East Columbus United Methodist Church and The Gideons International. He served in leadership roles at the church and volunteered at Love Chapel. Mr. Hadley was also a very talented artist and metal sculptor. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Hadley of Columbus; daughters, Tanya (Keith) Lunsford of Commiskey and Amy (James) Carlat of Ames, Iowa; grandchildren, Jacob (Madalyn) Simmons, Molly Simmons, Eli Simmons, Julia Carlat, Anna Carlat, Jack Carlat, Nayla (Neil) Bladen; great grandson, Nashion Hoevener and also great granddaughter, Georgia Grace Simmons to arrive in June. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Darleen Geiselman. Al Hamblen

Alferd Alan Hamblen "Butch," 74, of Fairbanks, Indiana, passed away May 1, 2019. He was born November 29, 1944, in LaPorte, Indiana, to Fred Hamblen and Hazel (McClendon) Hamblen. Alferd served in the United States Marine Corps as a sergeant during Vietnam. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Indiana State University. Alferd retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, as a correctional counselor. He also served on the Vigo County School Corporation Board. He enjoyed Civil War history, genealogy, poetry, politics and playing the accordion. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 51 years Paula Yvonne Hamblen, who passed in July of 2018; and siblings Joseph Hamblen and Martha Eloa Hamblen. Alferd is survived by his children Robin Hamblen (Danny Pound), Shannon Strain (Shawn) and Benjamin Hamblen (LeeAnn); grandchildren Eli Burtain (Erin), Ethan Hamblen (Amber), Haley Strain (Brad), Katlyn Matherly (David), Luke Cowden, Joseph Hamblen and Lauren Hamblen; great-grandchildren Wyatt Hamblen, Weston Hamblen, Warren Hamblen, Otto Forntin, Bentley Akers and Brody Akers; siblings Elisha Hamblen "PeeWee" and David Hamblen. Jayne Helton

Jayne Lynn Helton Cruse 70, of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014, at Union Hospital. She was born on March 3, 1944, in Vigo County, to Carl Ellis Helton, Sr. and LaVerne Maxine (Andreas) Helton. She married Joseph E. Cruse, Jr., on November 26, 1960. Jayne retired after working as a secretary for the Terre Haute City Street Department. She enjoyed playing cards and gambling. In her spare time, Jayne liked to play on the computer, especially on Facebook. She was a Ladies Auxiliary member of VFW Post 972, American Legion Post 104, Marine Corps League Joseph A. Bray Det. 971, and the Young Men’s Club of West Terre Haute. Jayne doted on her cat, Elvis. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family. She will be deeply missed. Jayne is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joe Cruse, Jr. of Terre Haute; children: Carla Cruse and her husband, David Sappington of Shelburn; Angela Green and her husband Charles Green of West Terre Haute; Wanda Gross and her husband Steve Gross, Sr., of Terre Haute; Lori King and her husband Dallas King, Sr. of Brazil; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; a sister Andrea Swank; mother-in-law, Ada Cruse; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Larry and Jennifer Cruse and Carolyn and Dale Hall; and several nieces and nephews. Ivan Judd

Rev. Ivan Leroy Judd, affectionately known as Mr. Ivan, age 72 of Hardin, KY passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at his home. Born Monday, January 11, 1943 in Terre Haute, IN, he was the son of the late Ivan Earl Judd and the late Martha (Stringer) Judd. A preacher for more than 40 years, he served churches in Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee and was the pastor at the Aurora Christian Church, Aurora, KY. He was a graduate of Lincoln Christian University, Lincoln, IL, where he earned a BA in Ministry. He was also a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL, where he earned a MA in Theology. He served for many years on the board of the Ohio Valley Christian Camp. He also served 16 years as the vice president of the Humane Society of Marshall County and served many years with the Aurora Food Pantry and the Marshall County Needline. He and his wife owned and operated Kiddie Korner Learning Center in Benton for 25 years. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Carol (Scott) Judd of Hardin, KY., daughters, Judith Anne Edwards, husband Jeff of Eddyville, KY, Andreina Lynn Waller, husband Malcom of Moscow, TX and son Joseph Lee Judd, wife Leigh of Paducah, KY, brother; Richard A. Judd of Terre Haute, IN., grandchildren; Joshua Edwards and Jonathan Edwards, both of Louisville, KY, Jacob Edwards of Eddyville, KY, Matthew and Rebekah Waller both of Moscow, TX, Jailyn Taber, husband Devon of Webster, TX, Cody and Macie Kane both of Paducah, KY, great granddaughter, Jamisyn Skye Edwards of Louisville, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his brothers, Robert Lee Judd, John Lee Judd and Delbert Ray Judd. Jerry Kidd

Jerry Barnes Kidd, 64, of Mt. Holly, New Jersey, and originally from Brazil, died at 11:26 p.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Deborah Heart and Lung Institute in Browns Mills, New Jersey. Jerry was born December 27, 1940, in Brazil, Indiana. He was the son of Linn and Dorothy Kerfoot Kidd. He is survived by two sisters, Sandra Henderson and husband Tom of Brazil and Karen Rogers of Florida; two nieces, Cathie Rogers of Florida and Leigh Anne Henderson of Bloomington; and two nephews, John Rogers of Lizton, Indiana and David Rogers of Terre Haute.


Mary Lou LeClercq

Mary Louise Evans, 77, of Terre Haute, passed away January 27, 2022 in her residence. Mary was born on October 4, 1944 in Terre Haute, IN., to Leo R. LeClercq and Louise Catherine Hedden LeClercq. Mary was a long time member of Saint Ann Catholic Church in Terre Haute. She worked for MCL Cafeteria and Bakery for over thirty years serving as Manager and most recently overseeing the Carry Out area of the restaurant. Mary was an avid reader and enjoying working jigsaw and word puzzles. She enjoyed watching Hallmark movies and most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Evans who passed away in 1990, and siblings; Leo LeClercq, Eva Harkness, Ruth LeClercq, Judy Erfft and Danny LeClercq. She is survived by a son, William Evans (Linda) of Richmond, TX., and a daughter Elizabeth Morgan (Donovan) of Terre Haute. She is survived by two brothers; David LeClercq (Sally) of North Port, FL., and Floyd LeClercq of Terre Haute. She is survived by three grandchildren; Joseph Hamblen, Lauren Hamblen and Dylan Morgan and a great granddaughter Meredith as well as several nieces and nephews. Barbara Jan “B.J.” McQuilken passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 31, 2010, at Union Hospital. She was born Aug. 4, 1942, in Terre Haute, to Col. James E. Lewis and Norvella Cash Lewis. Barbara worked at Wheaton Glass Company and the Eagles Lodge where she was also a member and an avid poker player with her friends on Saturday nights. She is survived by her three children, daughter, Sandy McQuilken of LaComb, La.; two sons, Jim McQuilken and his wife Karen of LaComb and Howard McQuilken and his wife Kathy of Terre Haute; twin sister, Ann Morgan of Terre Haute; brother, Jim Lewis of Terre Haute; six grandchildren, Khalil Fleming, Alaysia Fleming, Brandon McQuilken and Austin McQuilken of LaComb, Justin McQuilken and Cody McQuilken of Terre Haute; a nephew, Brent Morgan and wife Yvette of Terre Haute; four nieces, Sherry Witham and husband Craig of Terre Haute, Lynn Henry and husband Billy of Nashville, Tenn. and Ashley Lewis of Terre Haute; one aunt, Marilyn Cash of Avon, Ind.; one uncle, Bill Lewis of Louisville, Ky.; and many cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Mike McKissick

Michael Robert McKissick, 73, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 10:32 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018, in his home. He retired as a Deputy Sheriff with the Vigo County Sheriffs Department after many years of service and he also retired as a master sergeant from the Indiana Army National Guard after many years of service. He was born June 12, 1944, in Terre Haute, to Michael E. McKissick and Waneta R. Bulish McKissick. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jean “Dottie” McKissick; a son, Michael McKissick; a stepdaughter, Robin Lynch; a stepson, Scott Wood; two brothers, Tom McKissick and Jerry McKissick; a sister Patty Wilkinson; two grandchildren, Robert John McKissick and Brittney McKissick; a great-granddaughter, Savana Rose McKissick; his mother-in-law, Helen Maggie Stewart; and numerous nieces and nephews from California and Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Harrison; and a niece, Tilly Lamode. Mike was Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the 101st Airborne Division. He was a member of the Voiture 21-40 & 8; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972; American Legion Post 346; the Eagles Lodge; and the Marine Corps League. Patty Miller

Patricia L. Woods, 58, of Tell City, and formerly of Terre Haute, died October 28, 2002 in Beverly Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center at Tell City. She was born July 12, 1944 in Terre Haute to James Davis and Evelyn Miller Davis. Survivors include two sons, Brent Woods and Brad Woods; two sisters, Beverly Long and Elaine King; and five grandchildren. Services are 4 p.m. Thursday in Lamb-Basham Memorial Park Cemetery in Oakland City with the Rev. Craig Dupps officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Thursday in the Chapel. Graveside services are noon Friday at Roselawn.


Debby Nidiffer

Deborah was born May 22, 1944 in Terre Haute to Clyde and Mary Nidiffer. Following graduation from Connorsville High School in 1962, she pursued her passion of becoming an art teacher and graduated from Indiana State University in 1966. She worked at Concannon School until 1974 then started at West Vigo Middle School teaching art until she retired in 1999. Deborah belonged to the Wabash Valley Art Guild, Arts of Illiana, Vigo County 4-H Extension Agency, Welcome Club and Water Garden Society. She also loved being involved in the numerous activities of her daughters’ and grandchildren’s. Deborah married her high school sweetheart, Gary Hickman on October 26, 1963 in Terre Haute. Deborah is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and granddaughter, Jenna Ripple. She leaves behind her 3 daughters Tresa Alton (Joey), Jennifer Ripple (Kenny), and Angela Childress; her grandchildren CJ Alton (Kasey), Angela Elizabeth Alton, Victoria Childress, Kathryn Alton, Devin Childress, and Lleyton Ripple; her siblings Ron Nidiffer (Sue), Bob Nidiffer (Debe), Peggy Hill (Gary); sister-in-law Barbara Bledsoe; an international exchange daughter Manami Kojima; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Gary and Deborah will be held May 29th at the Hickman residence. Visitation will start at 1:30 pm with service at 3:00 pm. Greiner Funeral Home and Cremation Service have been entrusted with arrangements.


Sandy Robling

Sandra Sue Robling Cummins, 77, of Terre Haute, passed away on October 6, 2021, in Union Hospital. Sandy was born on March 6, 1944, to Forrest Robling and Annetta Trueblood Robling. She is survived by John, her husband of 51 years, her grandson, John Scott Cummins; stepson, John Joseph Cummins; special cousin, Peggy Grubb and husband Russell; sister-in-law, Donna Kerns; nephew, John M. Robling; nieces, Jane Ann McCain and husband Shell; and Julie Ann Potee and husband Jerrod. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Eric Cummins; her older brother, John Robling; sister-in-law, Eleanor Robling, grandmother, Essie Trueblood; aunt, Thelma Johnson; grandfather Virgil Robling; and grandmother, Grace Robling. Sandy grew up in Terre Haute, she graduated from State High School in 1962, and she graduated from Indiana State University where she earned a Masters degree in early childhood education. She began her teaching career at Van Duyn Elementary School, Clinton, Indiana where she taught kindergarten. Burial will take place in New Harmony Cemetery. Services are private. John Sanders

John A. Sanders, 73, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, July 25, 2017, in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born April 2, 1944, in Greencastle, Ind., a son of the late Charles and Jean (Butler) Sanders. Prior to his retirement in 2006, he had been the director of the Westmoreland County Tax Assessment Office. He was an Air Force veteran and a 1962 graduate of State High School in Terre Haute, Ind. He was a long time member of the American Legion Post No. 981, South Greensburg, a self-taught golfer and an avid home improvement "do-it-yourselfer." John was a lover of classic cars, had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for being a prankster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew Sanders; and two brothers, Charles "Sandy" and James Sanders. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Stacey (Polinsky) Sanders; two sons, Jonathan Sanders, of Clinton Township and Dylan Sanders, of United; his daughter, Sarah Sanders, of Millvale; two sisters, Clarinda Taylor, of Westfield, Ind. and Martha Sanders, of Pasadena, Calif.; his father and mother-in-law, Charles and Judy Polinsky; his brother-in-law, Brian (Robin) Polinsky; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Honoring John's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, in the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton St., Greensburg, with the Rev. Robert A. Free officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CASA of Westmoreland, 2 N. Dale Shipp

Alan Dale Shipp, 70, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at his home in Mishawaka. Alan was born in Sullivan, Indiana, on August 15, 1944, to Easton H. Shipp and Francis E. Coppage (Shipp). Alan obtained 14 years of education and graduated from State High School in 1962. Alan also attended classes at Indiana State University. Alan served his country in the Army and the Indiana National Guard from 1965-1971. Alan retired from the banking industry after serving his community his entire professional career at various levels of banking management. Alan enjoyed practicing his faith, serving others and his community, golfing, fishing, Notre Dame football, and spending time with family and friends. Alan always put the needs of others before himself and enjoyed participating in the Lions Club, Free Masons and other community groups. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother, Grant Shipp, and his older brother, Mark Shipp. Survivors include: Eric Allen (Amy Elizabeth) Shipp (son), Kathryn Elizabeth Shipp (daughter), Lilly Grace Shipp (granddaughter), Joseph Shipp (grandson), Linda Replogle, Kathy Ryan, Jerry Ryan, Chris Ryan and Julie Ryan. A Memorial Service for Alan will take place at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2015, at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where visitation will also be on Sunday from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m.


Jack Tennis

Jackie "Jack" Tennis, age 81 of Aurora, IL, peacefully passed while resting at home in the loving care of his family on October 30, 2025. He was born on June 16, 1944 to Erma L. (Shaw) and Alfred Allen Tennis in Terre Haute, IN and raised with his sister Carol Sue Brady, who have all predeceased him. Jack was a hard working student who, after graduating high school, chose to serve his country in the United States Air Force. After serving with honor, he began work as an air traffic controller where he tirelessly ensured the safety of thousands of people each day. After leaving the FAA, he went on to work for Lyon Metal where he later retired. Jack would eventually meet Dorothy "Dory" Marie Secor, fall in love, and marry on March 23rd, 1974. Together they raised three wonderful children. Jack is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his children Jeanne Tennis, Michael (Melinda) Tennis, Jason (Jennie) Tennis and his five grandchildren; Bradley (Cheryl), Bailey, Katie, Nicholas, and Jackson. Jack will be remembered as a patient, loving man who could always be found reading and whose presence will be greatly missed. Jean Warner

Jean Warner Bauer, age 67, of Falcon Heights, passed away on July 23, 2012. She was born October 20, 1944. She is survived by Marvin, her husband of 43 years, her sister Nancy (Allan) Gossmann, Marshall, IL and brother, Richard (Marcia) Warner, Buffalo, NY, and seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Mary Ann Warner, and brother Ted, Greenville, IL. Jean grew up in Terre Haute, IN and earned degrees from Indiana State University, Purdue University and University of Illinois. She has been a professor in the Department of Family Social Science, University of Minnesota, since 1983. She provided exceptional leadership to her department, college, the University, and her extension and research communities. She was a mentor to graduate students, giving them wings to fly, and to new faculty and colleagues at other universities. She served as director of graduate studies of her department, on the University Senate, and the Faculty Consultative Committee, including as chair. In 2011 she received the President's Award for Distinguished Service to the University. As an extension specialist with the University of Minnesota Extension Service, Jean led outreach and education programs in family resource management, including development of Dollar Works, a nationally recognized curriculum. She led a multi-state research project on Rural Low Income Families and its results were published last year in the book, Rural Families and Work: Context and Problems. A memorial service celebrating Jean's life and legacy was held at Centennial United Methodist Church (1524 County Road C2, Roseville, MN 55113) on July 28.
